Oh wow, a different kind of Teacher Feature!

This time the teacher isn’t a person, it’s a plant. Sometimes we just don’t see our subjects coming! You’ll never guess what this interviewee had to share..

Nature name?

Serendipity. As I was found, not sought.

What’s your specialty?

I provide a stark element of surprise putting all of my energy into pushing up from the ground and blooming brightly. No time for leaves.

Um, photosynthesis?

My leafless bloom you’ve come upon is not photosythesizing at all. Not to worry, I’ve got fuel banked from months earlier. I’ve got a bulb of sugar stored. You see, earlier this year I sent up leaves (not as noticable, I know) that photosynthsize to create that reserve. Then, I wait until the right rainfall and temperature conditions usually in late summer, to make my colorful debut.

Who’s your audience?

Mostly, we do our thing underground via bulb division rather than seeding. But sometimes we get to chat with those moths that look like tiny birds. Thanks for visiting!
