RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Teach 4th grade students in a science curriculum-based program outdoors

  • Manage behaviors in a full-class as well as in smaller groups

  • Mealtime duties

  • Special projects and light maintenance of the facility

  • Daily set-up and clean-up tasks

  • Consistently contribute to the 5-member team

PROGRAM AND ANTICIPATED DATES: 

  • Earthkeepers (4th grade) is a three day program.

  • Staff are expected to teach each session for all three days.

  • Program sessions are held on weekdays.

  • Approximately 20 sessions are anticipated for the 2024-2025 school year.

  • Sessions are typically scheduled late September through early April.

  • Sessions are held in Luling, LA about 30 minutes from downtown New Orleans. There may be one or two sessions that occur overnight on the Northshore in Covington, LA.

  • A full-time, all-staff, paid, three-week training program begins Late August/Early September 2024. Overnight attendance for the first week of training is mandatory for all Earth Educator positions. The rest of this training will occur on weekdays with no overnights.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience

  • Strong commitment to children and learning 

  • Experience with teaching children

  • Able to work in outdoor environments in a variety of weather conditions

  • Can lift at least 50 pounds

  • Flexible schedule

  • Performance/acting skills a plus

  • Ability to change gears between varied tasks

  • Team player

  • Must have a smartphone in order to receive calls, texts and to access email.

SALARY: 

Hourly wage of $17 per hour

BENEFITS:

CPR and 1st Aid Training Certification

Mileage reimbursed during work hours at 0.50/mile

Tolls fully reimbursed

 

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT:

Anticipated start date:  September 3, 2024

Anticipated end date: April 15, 2024

September involves mandatory training weeks (includes 3 nights first week).

Estimate three full days per week worked on average between October and mid April, except for end of December and New Years and Mardi Gras holidays. Possible two, three-day sessions conducted as overnight - TBD.
