Lusher Students at Sunship III

DAVID GRUNFELD / THE TIMES-PICAYUNE Lusher students learn that at one time, the oceans, plains, and desert covered our area and how the world changes continually, during the charter School’s annual trip to T.R.E.E. (teaching responsible earth education) near Covington Friday January 28, 2011. The three-day program ended Saturday where 34 seventh grade students from Lusher Charter School in New Orleans unlocked the wonders of the natural world. Sunship III curriculum is an environmental program in which students learn basic scientific concepts like energy flow, cycles, interrelationships and change. The students also explored the natural world with the goal of using their knowledge and awareness to make personal commitments for environmental change. Since 1995, Teaching Responsible Earth Education (T.R.E.E.), a non-profit, has provided curriculum based, outdoor earth education programs to over 13,000 children, parents and teachers from Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemine, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Tammany and Tangipahoa Parishes.
